WHAT IS A DOULA???

Birth doulas (also called childbirth assistants) provide emotional, physical and informational support during pregnancy, labor, birth and immediate postpartum.
A doula does not replace the partner. Instead she helps support the partner so that he or she can love and encourage the laboring woman.
Studies have shown that when doulas attend birth, labors are shorter with fewer complications, babies are healthier and they breastfeed more easily.

WHY USE A DOULA???
Women have complex needs during childbirth and the weeks that follow. In addition to medical care and the love and companionship provided by their partners, women need consistent, continuous reassurance, comfort, encouragement and respect. They need individualized care based on their circumstances and preferences.
Doulas make a difference. With the routine of hospital protocols, the increasing number of cesarean sections, and the high nurse to patient ratio, it is up to you to ensure that you will get the care you need. You can do this by having a doula by your side.
